GLOCAL Alumnus Pasha Wins Universitas 21 Leaders of the Future Award
A huge congratulations to one of our 2020 alumnus, Syed Saad Ali Pasha, on being awarded the prestigious ‘Leaders of the Future – Recent Alumnus’ award by Universitas 21. Pictured below is Sir Anton Muscatelli, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, accepting the award on his behalf last month at the University of California.
The U21 Leaders of the Future Awards celebrate the achievements of either current students or recent alumni at U21 member universities who show great promise or impact in internationalisation., taking into consideration factors such as Leading Change, Influencing and Empowering Others, Creating Connections, and Advancing Inclusive Global Engagement.
GLOCAL Programme Co-Ordinator, Prof. Duncan Ross: ‘What a wonderful achievement and recognition for Pasha. His work is truly inspiring and represents all that is great about the GLOCAL programme. We are incredibly proud to have him as an alumnus and I am sure he will continue to make a very positive impact in his future career’

University of Glasgow Ranks 12th in World in THE Impact Rankings
Times Higher Education Impact Rankings
We're very proud to share that the University of Glasgow has ranked 12th in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings!
The University has also ranked 1st in Scotland, 2nd in the UK, and 3rd in Europe - 2,526 universities from 130 countries or territories have been based on their progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key highlights for University of Glasgow include:
💧 3rd Globally in Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG 6)
♻ 10th Globally in Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)
🌍 10th Globally in Life on Land (SDG 15)
We'd also like to congratulate the University of Barcelona for ranking within the Top 150 Globally, and ranking 27th in Quality Education and =57th in Climate Action
QS University Rankings 2026
This week the QS University Rankings also came out, with three GLOCAL partners ranking in the Top 100 Globally:
- 57th - Kyoto University
- 79th - University of Glasgow
- 93rd - Uppsala University
- 140th - Erasmus University Rotterdam
- 160th - University of Barcelona
- 212th - Universidad de Los Andes
- 243rd - University of Göttingen

Cohort 7 Thesis Workshop at Göttingen University
Earlier this month students from GLOCAL Cohort VII, Tracks B & F came together at Göttingen University for a thesis workshop, where students gave presentations on their thesis topics whilst also providing peer feedback.
Students also heard from a GLOCAL alumna and had a workshop dinner at Cafe Botanik, a Persian restaurant just next to the university campus
There was a huge variation in the topics covered, showcasing the interdisciplinary nature of our programme – well done to all involved!
